Dinbych’s excellent pre season form continued with a narrow but deserved victory over a Bangor side which had replaced them in Division 2 North at the end of last season. Both teams contributed fully with positive attacking play to produce a close encounter with the result in doubt until the final minute.

Bangor had the better of the opening exchanges as they dominated territorially to pressurise Dinbych deep in their 22. Only excellent defence by Dinbych kept the hosts at bay. The visitors then turned the tables in the 8th minute with full back Aidyn Jones counter-attacking with a powerful break from his own half before being stopped just short of the Bangor line. Centre Isaac Jones was up in close support to go over for a try which he converted himself.

Bangor were quick to reply with a long range try from their own 22 ending with full back Mabon Dafydd going over for an unconverted try in the corner. Dinbych responded well with pressure of their own deep in the Bangor 22 as they stretched the home defence to its limits by going through several phases of attacks eventually resulting in prop Endaf Waller crossing for an unconverted try wide out. Bangor hit back to draw level with hooker Gerwyn Morris crossing for a try converted by outside half Steffan Owen. Dinbych pulled away once more just before the interval when flanker Robin Williams used his strength to break through the home defence on a powerful run from 30 metres to cross for a try. The conversion by Isaac Jones gave Dinbych a lead by 19 points to 12 at half time.

Dinbych increased their lead early in the second half when Robin Williams again used his aggressive running to break through the Bangor defence from a short range tap penalty. Isaac Jones again added the conversion points. Bangor again replied with a try by centre Callum Williams which was converted by Steffan Owen. The hosts narrowed the gap further when wing Gareth Spiers went over for a try in the corner.

In the final quarter of the game Aidyn Jones used his pace and elusive running to outflank the Bangor defence to cross in the corner with Ryan Devenport converting with an excellent kick from the touchline. Bangor pressed strongly in the final minutes and scored a try converted by Steffan Owen to close the gap to just two points at 33 -31. Dinbych’s defence continued to resist strongly with last ditch tackling to seal a narrow victory.
